In 2010, Scouting celebrated its 100 year Anniversary of Scouting in the United States.  Legend says that entrepenuer, William D. Boyce was caught in the fog in London and met an unknown scout.  Mr. Boyce became facinated with scouting when the boy would not accept a tip after helping him.  When the scout was asked why, he explained to Mr. Boyce that he was a scout and went on to explain to Mr. Boyce what that was.  William D. Boyce returned to the United States with information he gathered in London and on February 8, 1910 scouting in the United States was born.

Although much in scouting has changed since the founding of Scouting in the U.S., the values upon which scouting was established have not.

PACK 17

Pack 17 is chartered by Saints Peter and Paul Church in Norwich, Connecticut.  For almost 25 years, Pack 17 has started many boys on their path to Eagle.

Pack 17 is dedicated to providing a rich, value filled program that is wrapped in fun for the scouts.  We have a wonderful group of trained, dedicated volunteers that are full of enthusiasm for the scouting program and their excitement is contagious.  They work with the boys in their dens in many creative ways to help them along the path of scouting and in most cases the boys exceed beyond their own expectations.

Cub Scouts is made up of volunteers that are parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or family friends, of the scouts in the program.  Just as the boys in cub scouting move up and on to boy scouts, so do the volunteers.  Therefore, we are always looking for adults that are interested in helping out.  We are a fun, lively group of individuals and are always more than willing to lend a helping hand to a new volunteer in our pack!  Cub Scouting is not only fun for the boys!  Many of the adults go on to form long lasting friendships with the other leaders in the pack.

Feel free to contact myself if you are interested in learning more about scouting.  We always welcome new scouts to the scouting program and look forward to helping your son get started ont he path to Eagle!

The Values of Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting was started int he 1930's when a need was seen for a program for younger boys.  The values of Cub Scouting can be found in the Cub Scout Promise and Law.

The Cub Scout Promise

I promise to do my best
To do my duty to God and my country,
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack.

The Law of the Pack

The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.
